Chiara Amirante was born in Rome in 1966. She graduated in political science at the La Sapienza University in Rome. She is the founder and president of the New Horizons community which has been recognised by the Holy See as International Association of the Faithful in 2010. Chiara has been taking care of youth problems since the early ‘90s when she started engaging in street youths, victims of drug addiction, alcohol, prostitution, violence and marginalisation in the most degraded areas in Rome. New Horizons was born from this experience. Soon after Chiara created a rehabilitative therapeutic pathway of self-knowledge and healing of the heart on the art of loving called Spiritherapy.
Since the first Community’s residential shelter opened in 1994, New Horizons created 231 centres for reception, training and guidance (of these 86 are residential centres for the reception, rehabilitation and training; 63 are listening, prevention and service centres; and 82 are families that are open to providing shelter). More than 1,000 volunteers working in different areas (reception, support and guidance; prevention and awareness-raising; international cooperation and social services; communication and mass-media; training, cultural promotion and publishing; economy and work; spirituality and prayer; entertainment and animation; harmony and artistic expression; environment and sport; education and childhood); 6 “Heaven Citadels” under construction and more than 700,000 “Knights of the Light” that bring joy to those who lost hope and those living in situations of deep distress.
In 2004, Pope John Paul II nominated Chiara consultant to the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral care of Migrants and Itinerant People. Since 2011, she has been a member of the Scientific Committee for the magazine People on the Move of the same Dicastery. In 2012, Pope Benedict XVI nominated her consultant to the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of New Evangelisation. That same year, she was also summoned to the XIII Synod of Bishops. She also received numerous awards that testify to the validity and scope of her commitment to the youths.
Chiara is a bestselling author. Since her first book Stazione Termini (1997) was written, she published more than 20 books. Among others: Solo l’Amore resta (2012), E gioia sia (2014), Dialogare con Dio (2015), La guarigione del cuore (2019), Dio è Gioia: Papa Francesco incontra Nuovi Orizzonti (2020) all edited by Piemme. Since the ‘90s she took part in many tv shows for Rai, Mediaset and TV200 and many local stations.
In the last few years, she also worked on the new evangelisation through the new media. Her social media pages have millions of followers from Italy and the rest of the world.
